Mill, nine mens morris

1. Take turns placing pieces on empty points.
2. Line up three in a row (a mill) to remove one of your opponent's pieces.
3. Once all pieces are placed, slide them one step along the lines to form new mills.
4. With only three pieces left, a player may jump to any free point.

Mill, nine mens morris is a board game so old that traces of it have been found in Troy, and ancient boards have turned up from Egypt to Iceland and China. This version uses the classic European rules. First, players take turns placing their pieces on the empty points. Whenever you get three in a straight line — a mill — you remove one of your opponent's pieces. Once every piece is on the board, you slide them along the lines to build new mills, and a player reduced to three pieces may jump to any free point. Play the computer, a friend on one device or an online opponent. Setting up two possible mills at once is the move that wins most games.
