Because there's no visible way to track flipped cards beyond your own memory, building a genuine mental map of the grid — rather than flipping cards somewhat randomly — is what actually clears a round efficiently. The Pokemon theming gives each flip a small moment of recognition on top of the memory challenge itself, though the underlying skill being tested is exactly the same short-term recall any pairs-matching game demands.
