About Ugolki - halma
Ugolki - halma turns board strategy into a race rather than a fight: there is no capturing at all, just a competition to be the first to move your entire set of pieces across the board into your opponent's starting corner. Because you cannot remove or block a piece the way checkers or chess allow, every advantage comes from route-finding — using your own pieces as stepping stones for long jump chains that cover much more ground than a single step ever could. Leaving a gap in your formation can hand your opponent a free jump lane straight through your side of the board, so protecting your structure matters as much as advancing it. The diagonal movement keeps the geometry simple, but planning a jump sequence that clears several pieces at once is where the real skill of the game lives.
